Wendy Wellens contributes to the global Material Stewardship (MS) strategic program by developing projects and advocacy strategies related to chemicals policy and regulations. She also helps to facilitate members’ research and compliance related to EU chemicals legislation, including the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) regulations.

By utilizing state-of-the-art scientific methodologies to address requirements from REACH, Wendy contributes to the safety of copper industry products during manufacturing and use. Through her work at the European Copper Institute (ECI), she also manages the REACH Copper Consortium, a voluntary industry initiative to help companies meet their obligations under the REACH regulation. More than anything, Wendy appreciates the opportunity to engage companies throughout the copper supply chain with scientific advances to ensure they remain up-to-date and compliant, furthering responsible industry practices. Outside the office, Wendy recharges by singing in a choir and running outdoors.

“Scientific advancement and adherence to regulations will continue to make the copper supply chain safer and more responsible.”
