Marna Cloete succeeds Steve Rowland, Head of Copper USA at Glencore, who has served as Board Chair for the past two years.
Ivanhoe Mines’ involvement with ICA has grown significantly since the company joined the association three years ago. In 2026, their engagement supported ICA’s efforts to highlight Africa’s emerging role in meeting long-term global copper demand. At African Mining Indaba, ICA specifically recognized Ivanhoe Mines among its members continuing to invest in long-term copper supply and responsible production across the region.
Ivanhoe Mines is also advancing responsible production at its Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through participation in the Copper Mark assurance process. The company identified launching Kamoa-Kakula’s Copper Mark application as a sustainability objective in its 2024 Sustainability Report. It is now formally participating in the program, with its assessment currently in progress. The Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex is among the fastest-growing copper mining operations in the world and boasts one of the lowest greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensities per tonne of metal produced globally.
ICA continues to advance its strategic plan as the voice of copper, promoting copper use and applications on behalf of its members. Through the development and implementation of a comprehensive sustainability and product-positioning strategy, ICA leverages its exclusive market intelligence and scientific research to protect copper markets, defend and sustain demand, and ensure that copper remains the material of choice for a sustainable future.

Cloete has served as President of Ivanhoe Mines since Abril 2020, following her tenure as Chief Financial Officer from 2009 to 2020. Since joining the company in 2006, she has played a key role in its growth and global positioning. She has helped lead the development of the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex in the DRC and has driven strategic partnerships with companies and governments, including efforts to utilize the Lobito Atlantic Rail Corridor to improve mineral export efficiency.
ICA President and CEO Juan Ignacio Díaz stated, “Marna exemplifies the leadership our industry needs: thoughtful, decisive, and forward-looking. She is a strong believer in ICA’s strategy to promote, protect, and defend copper, and understands that no company can achieve this alone. Her leadership and ability to bring people together will be invaluable in advancing this collective effort.”
