ICA members value strategic partnerships and cooperation on a range of initiatives, from renewable energy and electric vehicles to water management and indigenous communities. While these concerns are shared by members around the world, there can be subtle nuances and regional differences to these global issues.
To that end, ICA works closely with its United States (U.S.) partner, the Copper Development Association (CDA), to make sure member needs are met in the areas of U.S. policy and advocacy. With over 40,000 employees in 30 states and 100 Congressional Districts, the U.S. domestic copper industry is a key driver contributing to the economic success of the United States. CDA works closely with the Copper Caucus, a bipartisan group, to advance policy positions and legislation considered helpful to the U.S. copper industry and to support the public’s awareness of the benefits of copper and copper alloys in daily life.
The clean energy transition, electric vehicles and carbon neutral goals are already part of discussions in Washington, D.C. Infrastructure legislation encompassing EV charging stations, lead service line replacement and the electrical grid is moving to the forefront of policy conversations. ICA and CDA will continue to advocate and educate Congress, the Biden Administration, policy makers, NGOs and others on how essential copper is to the world today and the clean energy future of tomorrow.
