Seán Kelly has been a Member of the European Parliament for the European People’s Party (EPP) Group since 2009. He is a member of the Industry, Research & Energy (ITRE) committee which is responsible for the revision for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). On this file, he serves as the EPP shadow rapporteur. Mr Kelly was also the rapporteur for the Own Initiative Procedure for the revision of the EPBD in 2017 and the EPP shadow rapporteur for the recast of the Renewable Energy Directive. In 2012, Mr Kelly was elected as “MEP of the Year” in the category of Research and Innovation for his ITRE committee work. Prior to his role as an MEP, Mr Kelly had a long-standing career as a teacher.
